Muslin gets softer with every wash, so care is simple.
- Machine wash warm (up to 40°C) on a gentle cycle with a mild detergent.
- No bleach and no fabric softener. Softener coats the fibres and reduces breathability.
- Tumble dry on low, or line dry in the shade.
- Wash separately from anything with zips, hooks or buttons to avoid snags.
- Avoid hot washes. High heat can tighten the weave.
What's normal
Muslin arrives with a slightly crisp, crinkled feel and relaxes with use and washing. A little pilling or crinkling in the first few washes settles down, and most people find the blanket at its softest after 3 to 5 washes.
Pets
Muslin doesn't attract hair the way fleece does, and hair washes out easily. An open weave can snag on claws, so a quick claw trim or a throw over the top keeps it pristine.
